About me

My name is Paola Michieli. The secrets and passion for cooking were passed down to me in childhood by my mother, who prepared our meals each day with great dedication and love. Sharing food was, and still is, an essential part of our family life.

In Venice I studied foreign languages, my other great passion. Extensive travel broadened my horizons, culinary and otherwise, yet my heart always returns to the cuisine of my roots.

I have therefore chosen to open the doors of my family home to offer simple, traditional cooking classes, with the aim of sharing my personal experience and creating a warm, convivial atmosphere, just like home. An authentic moment in which every gesture becomes an opportunity to celebrate the beauty of relationships and the joy found in life’s small pleasures.

A HOME in the heart of Canneregio

The name Ca’ delle Spezie is a tribute to our land and its history. Venice once built its wealth on the spice trade, over which it held a powerful monopoly. Pepper, ginger, cinnamon and saffron were just a few of the countless spices sourced in the East and exported throughout Europe, all passing through the bustling Rialto market. This legacy explains why spices are used so widely in Venetian cooking, even in the simplest home recipes. Ca’, the Venetian abbreviation of casa, reflects this tradition, transforming every dish into a memorable culinary experience.

Ca’ delle Spezie is located in Cannaregio, the largest of Venice’s sestieri: a place that embodies the charm of authentic Venice, where the tranquil canals blend in harmoniously with the lively city life.
